Maintenance Development Case Study

In 2018-2019 Niko Jokela Consulting Oy carried out a vast project with Company A’s two steel factories in Northern Finland. The project consisted of engineering a preventive and predictive maintenance plan for the whole production line in both factories. The project expanded later to carrying out work instructions, training and monitoring in one of the two factories. A security project was implemented as well - in order to increase safety in the factories keycards for the production machinery were created.

Company A’s distinct challenge was to modernize their whole production to the 2020s. The current operating models weren’t effective enough to meet the challenging production goals. The starting point was to engineer a preventive and predictive maintenance plan for all the existing production machinery and the goal was to minimize the malfunctions in the production line to raise the utilization rate. During the project the need to develop several other areas operation-wise was noticed which led to the expansion of the project.
Challenge
As a result, the old procedures of Company A were streamlined into a solid, standardized operation model. The preventive and predictive maintenance plan is now on the par with contemporary industry standards and the utilization rate of the production line is measured comprehensively with modern tools.
